Giving Thanks

A time to be Thankful! 

What Are You Thankful For? 

Giving praise is sometimes one of the hardest prayers to pray; especially when things in life aren't going as planned. Even when we do pray, our prays might be 10% praise and 90% of asking God to change something in our life. I know I'm guilty. 
Those of you who know me well also know that being a foster parent holds a very special place in my heart. While my biological kids usually pray for puppies and bunnies, and 'please let this food be good;' almost all my foster kids have prayed the same prayer: "Please let me go home."

It's a very humbling experience to hear a 6, 8, or even 12 year old child's prayer filled with longing for the home they once knew. And every time I think about one of those prayers, even now, I'm filled with Thankfulness for everything God has given me - from the salvation that He paid for me on the cross to home I live in (even if the living room lights flash when the microwave runs.)

So this week, let's focus our prayers on PRAISE; really be thankful for your home, your children, and your friends, even if the situation surrounding those things isn't perfect!

God is good...all the time.
All the time...God is good.

LET IT GO


LET IT GO...

No, I'm not talking about the song from FROZEN. Okay, maybe a little. What should we let go you ask? Not our friends, not our family, or your home...but that person inside of you that tells you "You're not good enough," "You're not strong enough," or, in the words of Deanna Sharpe, "You're ugly, you stink!" 
If we trust God to take total control of our lives, we can learn to let go of the insecurities that hold us back from the fullness of God's plan. It's so easy to put on a mask and pretend to be the person you think you should be. But don't be scared of the person you are.

Do we all screw up? Yep. Do we all make mistakes? Yep. But embrace the imperfections. It's the only way to grow.

We're not perfect. We make mistakes - so will you...Just Keep on Dancing!

Through it ALL...

Through it ALL, it is well...

Have you ever felt spiritually attacked? Maybe it's thoughts of lacking self-worth or just questioning "Why God, why?" Sometimes it's hard to see the bigger picture. Sometimes our brain can only handle a two dimensional world view, when God sees the complexity and wonder from beginning to end. 
Sometimes, it's really hard to say it is well through it ALL. All means everything. Every moment you loose you temper, every time someone offends you, and every time life doesn't seem fair. Letting go of control may be the hardest thing you do.But, it you can have the strength to say, "God - you got this" you will find yourself refreshed and the burdens lifted off your shoulders.

IT'S NOT THE WEIGHT ON THE SCALE...

It's the weight on your soul....
We want to be more than just your instructors. We want to be your friends. We pray for you consistently - we want to know specifics!

We will be focusing on 2 very important aspects for the next few weeks: Prayer and Weight. We will give you physical weight loss tips, but our goal is to grow closer to each one of you through daily prayer. Will you join us?

I challenge you to find a buddy...be a buddy, have a buddy. We want you two to commit to praying for one another for one week for a specific purpose. You don't have to stop at two, let's have groups of 3 & 4 as well and watch what God will do for us this next week!
 
Stop. Take a moment. A pray this prayer for someone. We prayed it for you. 
Let's not forget the fun in life! We will have our first 'weight' tip tonight at class! Bring a friend!

Ready, Set...GOAL

IT'S TIME TO SET YOUR GOAL

But how???

We all know the importance of setting goals. We all know the importance of having accountability as well as consistent motivation. But how do we stay motivated when we enter day 10, 30, or even day 90 of a life changing plan???

Before we can talk about that, we have to discuss how we make a plan.
1) Write down your goal! Keep a mission statement and give yourself a specific time to complete your goals...no vague "do better at life" - that just doesn't cut it here.
2) Set weekly and daily goals - specific actions  that you can do to that will move you closer to your overarching goal. aka, "Today, I will remember to smile every hour."
3) Find a buddy. Find someone to walk through this with you as well as keep you accountable.
4) Find something that motivates you and look at it every day. This can be YouTube video, Ted Talk, picture, favorite scripture, etc...
5) Be okay with the fact that some days you will want to quit. You will want to give up. You will think that it is pointless or just too hard. These feelings are OKAY. Work through them. Call your buddy. Even rest a day. These feelings will never go away (sorry, but it's true) It's learning how to push through them and move on...Give yourself grace!

These are the things we will be talking about in September. Hope you won't miss this. Our "talks" after class will resume then...they are only 5 minutes and its here where the real relationships happen.

Come to class...make a plan....find a buddy. We are here for you!

SMALL STEPS



Time to Re-Focus....

One step at a time.


Have you ever reached for perfection, instead of perseverance? Sometimes I become so frustrated when I can't do something perfect, or if I can't remember something just right...Sound familiar?

It's not about being perfect. It's about doing better than yesterday. God doesn't require perfection - and thank goodness he doesn't! If we were meant to be perfect, then Jesus wouldn't have had to die. He was perfection for us. So, if you find yourself striving for perfection, strive for Jesus - it's the only way you'll succeed.

In a few short weeks we will be asking everyone to write down their goals that you want to achieve between September and December 31st. We want to create accountability as well encouragement, because even I need that in my life.

Make it Count!

Making The Most of EVERY Opportunity...

What are you doing today? 

If you took your day and broke down the time you spent doing every activity, would your productivity reflect the life goals you've set for yourself?
Would you find that you spend more time on Facebook than with your kids, or more time watching TV than with God?

Through July and August we are challenging you to MAKE EVERY MOMENT COUNT. Whether that means spending more time being a mom, a sister, a better friend; or it could mean finally having that quiet time routine, we challenge you to stop wasting the precious time...and I know we ALL get caught in that trap. (Even us...but don't tell anyone) 

It's hard finding the balance between serving others, serving God, and still having time for yourself. At REFIT we try to incorporate relationship - friendships as well getting in a good sweat! We are women who do our best to worship God in everything we do - including worshiping Him through dancing and acting goofy.
Open your Bible daily. Even if you only have 2 minutes...it's those 2 minutes that can change your life. Here is a list of passages for everyday problems we face. 
Take at least 2 minutes every day this week to work on your physical bodies.

ONLY 79 DAYS UNTIL FALL...

How are you going to make your mark this Summer? 

Summer is flying by so fast it's hard to keep up. But in July, instead of thinking how much time we might have lost, or how little time we have left, let's focus on what to do with the time we have. Today is a new day. Today is the start of a brand new week. How are you going to spend your time to maximize your life's productivity?

Stop and pray. Thank God for the time He has given you and then go out into the world and use that time to benefit His Kingdom!

Hope you are having an amazing Monday. We have a few announcements about class next week...there will be a night of POWER, very powerful worship happening at our church, so our REFIT class will have to change for next week....more to come this week about specifics.

BUT, I hope you all will consider join us for a night of powerful dedicated to praying for the Muslim world at CenterPoint NEXT Monday 7/13/15 at 6:30 pm.

Hello Refitters!
Can you believe tonight is our last JUNE class??? It seems like it started such a short time ago.

Tonight concludes our "Testimony Talks" at the end of class and we have the privilege of hearing from Leigh tonight! You won't want to miss this!

A heads up for July themes: We will be talking about TIME...time is something everybody says they don't have enough of...so what are you waiting for? Let's get rid of everything that wastes time in our lives and start focusing on those goals we all have, but never thought we could reach. (more on this in July)

REFIT UPDATES

Summer REFIT! I say YES...

Okay, technically there are still 21 more days to summer...

School's out and schedules are changing....well, for some of us anyway.
We know summer can be a time of fun, change, but also some added stress. (especially when you go to put on that bathing suit that's been hiding in your drawer all winter)
So what's NOT changing...YOUR REFIT CLASS!

That's right. We are still meeting every Monday night at 6:30...we also have some very special announcements coming up too; for instance our THROW BACK THURSDAY PARTY happening on June 25th! (more info at a later date) 
We hope to see you all tonight!
